THE STORY
BEHIND THE WORK.
AN UNCONVENTIONAL
RECOVERY.
I have been bulimia-free for more than thirty years — not because I followed conventional recovery programs or treatments, but because I never knew there were any.
It was the late 1970s. Bulimia had yet to be discovered. There was no diagnosis, no framework, no internet saturated with recovery narratives telling me what I had, why I had it, and how hard it would be to recover — that was decades away. There was just a young woman, a secret, and eventually — after struggling for fifteen years while building a successful career — without quite knowing how, I was free.
That absence of information, I later discovered, was a blessing. It had given me access to something the information would have taken away — a direct experience of what was actually happening to me, and why.
I am not at all sure my own path would have led me out so fully if I were recovering today.
After decades of living fully free, I noticed something that made me angry. And still does.
Women losing years — real years of a real life — and not because they weren't trying hard enough, but because the information they were relying on was not designed for freedom. And over the decades — nothing has changed.
Without a different understanding, even the most determined and intelligent woman will keep circling the same ground and erroneously blaming herself for failing.
I began working with women more than a decade ago with one question: what would change for them if the information changed? What I found confirmed what my own experience had shown me.
The women I work with had not been struggling because they lack commitment. They'd been struggling because the map they were navigating from was drawn from incomplete information.
There is a path that every woman must walk to be free, and that path is The Crossing.
It is private, direct, and shaped entirely around you — because the journey that unfolds, and what becomes clear along the way, is different for every woman. All that is required is a willingness for a different kind of looking — one that makes visible what the old information never could.
